eBay is becoming a way kids make money, retired people bring in a paycheck and single moms are able to stay at home with their kids and still make more than they did at their day job. But still many people I meet don’t understand how to make money on eBay. As I explain in my eBook, which you should really check out (shameless plug!) there are two definite ways to make money: either sell a lot of mass produced items or sell a few, unique “niche” items.
But recently, as eBay’s mass-produced & dropshipping markets become over run with eager money seekers the “niche” market is the best place to start selling on eBay, especially if you want to make money fast. It just depends on what type of niche you decide to go into. David Wirtenberg, not yet 30, is an eBay powerseller who has sold over 10 million dollars in a year. He sells wedding bands, engagement rings and other specific, high priced jewelry. Most auctions he starts begin at the .99 cent price, but because of the unique nature of his business model David still makes money… usually more than his competitors who have their items set at “fixed price”.
A famous tattoo artist auctioned of 10 spots to the highest bidders where the winner would get to be tattooed by the legend, each tattoo sold for around $3000… something that would normally cost no more than $500! Talk about niche! Just think about it, if only a few people are selling authentic signed guitars from famous musicians the prices are going to be much higher than if you sold 100 Gibson guitars at set prices. But how to find these unique, niche items? Open your eyes, get creative, go to Pawn Shops & check out craigslist for people who don’t realize what gems they are selling for little money.
Its doable, I’ve made my money selling in a very specific niche for years. But because most people buy into the “dropshipping” myth (that its the only way to make real money) the niche markets stay slim… which is good because that is what makes them so profitable!
**p.s. the picture is of the grilled cheese w/ an “image” of the Virgin Mary on it. It sold for over $28k on eBay years ago!
