Instead of a lengthy intro I think this post speaks for itself. I will outline the 5 biggest OOPS you can make on eBay, all of which I know too well from trial and error. So don’t make the mistakes I did and millions others do in your eBay selling, instead learn from my mistakes & get ahead!
1. No picture or a Crappy picture: Number one thing that brings people to your auction (known as the ‘click through’ rate) is the photo you put as your Gallery. If you don’t have a photo you may as well just not bother selling at all, if you do and it sucks then you won’t sell the item or if you do it will be for way too little. Take awesome photos every time!
2. Not offering International Shipping: I have an entire post of this because its that big of a deal. eBay is a global market, so ship to ALL of them not just your select country. I made this mistake and first and when I ‘converted’ my sales went through the roof.
3. Wasting Money on Highlight, Bold & other “Extras”: Highlight, Bold or even Featured First are not worth the hefty price tags they charge unless you are selling a very expensive, unique item. They will make a listing that would cost .85 cents cost 5.00! Now if that doesn’t eat into your bottom line I don’t know what will. So unless you’re selling a massive diamond ring, an expensive rare painting or a grilled cheese with an image of the Virgin Mary on it (its true look here), then don’t bother.
4. Not Spell-checking: Whether you do it yourself or use the nifty new fangled ’spell check’ feature that comes equipped on every word type program, check your spelling. eBay buyer’s have a lot of options… why buy from an assumed illiterate when they can buy from someone that seems more professional & smarter. Its a proven fact, people won’t buy if your auction is riddled with misspells (now my luck is this post with be full of misspells… do as I say not as I do!).
5. Starting Items too High: People go to eBay for a deal usually or to find something they can’t find easily where they are. But if you start your items start price too high people will be turned off to bid. If you do a buy it now be sure to be priced competitively but you don’t have to be the lowest, but if you are doing an auction style listing then start low & let the consumer’s bid it up! Please love to bid, it makes it a game. They will spend more if you start the auction lower & if you offer FREE shipping!
Head these warnings & you can avoid the pitfalls that most eBay sellers make!
